should teen curfews be put into effect

Whether or not you agree with teen curfews, there's an argument to support your choice. Supporters of curfews say that the reduced juvenile crime rate in cities where curfews have been put into effect prove that they work. People who are against curfews say they go against the constitution and that "The right to walk the streets, or to meet publicly with one's friends for a noble purpose or for no purpose at all--and to do so whenever one pleases--is an integral component of life in a free and ordered society".

I don't support curfews.I believe it is a violation of the rights the Bill of Rights gives everyone as American citizens. For example the Bill of Rights gives people the right to peacefully assembly, and it does not specify a time of day you are allowed to do so. Maybe you’re not assembling, you could be leaving a movie, but I feel as though the same principals apply because if you were out at night to assemble you would be arrested for breaking curfew even though you were exercising a right given to you by the Bill of Rights. As shown in the picture below, a man is doing the same legal thing all day. I don't think it’s fair that because the time changes it now illegal, and what are the consequences for being out at night? "In some cases the police will simply give a warning, others will make the youth return home, in other cases there may be a fine or jail time involved."

The curfew gives law enforcement another tool to keep young people in check. For the teens that are law abiding this isn't fair. For example, maybe a 16 year old wants to see movie that isn't over until 12:15. The teen can no longer go because when the movie is over its illegal for him/her to be out. As the picture below shows, to people under age, time caan be your enemy. Also, I don't support curfews because it’s supposed to be a way to keep teens in check but I don’t believe it’s very effective. “Others claim that curfews are ineffective, pointing to statistics showing that most juvenile crimes occur between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.”. When this is a proven fact, then I don’t see how a curfew is going to help anything. Just because you’re not supposed to be outside, doesn’t mean you won’t be. Also certain crimes, such as alcohol consumption and drug use, are easily done inside.
